About the NHL Goalie Builder

What happens when you take the best qualities of hockey's greatest goaltenders and put them into one player? That's the challenge behind the NHL Goalie Builder on 84-0. You'll spin for different NHL goalies, choose one attribute from each, and gradually create your own custom netminder. Once the build is complete, you can put him through a full 84-game season and see whether your combination of skills can produce an elite year.

Goaltending is a different kind of challenge from building a forward or defenseman. A single weakness can change the way your player performs, so choosing the right skill at the right moment matters.

How does the NHL Goalie Builder work?

Each round presents a randomly selected NHL goalie and a group of attributes. You can keep exactly one skill from each player before moving on to the next spin.

You get ten selections to complete your goaltender, plus three passes that let you reject an option when the available choices aren't good enough. The passes are limited, so using one simply because a selection looks average can leave you without an escape later.

The goal is to build a complete goaltender rather than chasing one impressive number.

What goalie attributes can you choose?

The available skills cover different aspects of playing in net, including reflexes, glove ability, post-to-post movement, composure and other traits that influence how your goalie performs.

Because each skill comes from a real NHL player, you can create some unusual combinations. You might take the reflexes of Dominik Hasek, combine them with the glove of another elite netminder, then add the movement or composure of a completely different goalie.

That's what makes each run unpredictable.

What happens after you finish your goalie?

Once all ten attributes are selected, your custom goaltender enters an 84-game NHL season simulation.

The simulation gives you a chance to see how the completed build performs over an entire season. Wins and shutouts are important, but save percentage and overall consistency can also tell you whether the choices you made actually produced a well-rounded goalie.

A great build isn't necessarily the one with the highest individual rating. It's the combination of skills that can make the biggest difference once the season starts.

Can I compare my goalie with other players?

Yes. Completed builds can be saved to the global leaderboard, where you can compare your results with other 84-0 players.

You can also switch between the Current Era and All-Time player pools. That gives you two different ways to approach the challenge and lets you see how modern goaltenders compare with legends from previous generations.

If you create a particularly strong build, you can generate a shareable player card and challenge friends to beat your result.

Can you chase Brodeur's 48-win record?

Martin Brodeur's 48 wins in a single NHL season are an incredible benchmark for any goaltender. Your custom goalie gets an entire 84-game schedule to try to produce a season that can compete with the greatest individual goaltending performances.

There isn't a guaranteed formula for getting there. Every run gives you different players, different attributes and different decisions. Use your passes carefully, build around the areas your goalie needs most, and see whether your creation can put together a season worthy of the record books.
