Think you can build a better hockey team than your opponent? The NHL 1v1 game puts two players into a live snake draft where every selection affects both rosters. You aren't simply choosing the best player available, you're also deciding which players your opponent must not get.
Each matchup starts with random team and era combinations, creating a different draft every time. You have six rounds to assemble your lineup, and once you take a player, your opponent can't use that player in the same matchup.
The draft follows a snake format, so the order changes as the rounds progress. Getting the first pick gives you an immediate advantage, but it also means your opponent gets the next opportunity to make two selections in a row.
That creates an interesting trade-off. You might grab the best player available, or you might take a player your opponent desperately needs. Reading the board becomes just as important as knowing which players are good.
The obvious strategy isn't always the best one. Taking a superstar can improve your roster, but denying your opponent an elite goalie or top defenseman may have an even bigger impact.
You also need to think about positional balance. A team packed with elite forwards can still struggle if you ignore defense or goaltending.
The best drafts are usually about value and denial rather than simply collecting the biggest names.
Yes. The game can mix players from different eras, so you'll sometimes have to compare historical stars with modern players.
Era adjustments are part of the experience, meaning raw historical statistics aren't necessarily enough to decide which player is the better pick. You need to consider how each player fits the game and the rest of your roster.
Once both players have completed their lineups, the rosters go into a season simulation. The better record wins the matchup.
Your team's Attack and Defense ratings help determine how the roster performs, but the final result isn't decided simply by whoever made the most recognizable picks.
That makes the simulation the final test of your draft strategy.
Yes. Ranked matches use an Elo rating system, allowing you to climb or fall based on your results against other players. The global leaderboards give you a way to see how your drafting ability compares with the wider 84-0 community.
